This post has been in the making for a while! Every time I thought of something new, I'd just add it to the list!
Let's face it, there are just certain things that come with being a teacher...and I'm sure that any teacher or anyone who has a teacher in their life can relate to multiple, if not all, of the things on this list!
So, here goes...
YOU KNOW YOU'RE A TEACHER WHEN...
* You are constantly changing the names of your future babies because some names are just permanently ruined for you while others are looking better and better! (Sidenote...I got really really worried this year because there was a 3rd grader named Emerson and that's Kyle and my's #1 girl's name choice...so far, so good!)
*You ask your husband to verbalize what lesson he "learned" from that mistake....teachable moments, y'all!
*You buy those cute baby board books for your friends' baby showers...we really take the "life-long" readers thing seriously!
*Target, Michaels, and the Dollar Tree show up on your credit card statements A LOT...especially in the month of August!
*You have a Pinterest board for every subject...and every holiday...and every bulletin board!
*You could fall asleep at 7:30pm on a Friday night!
*You get complimented on your handwriting...a LOT!
*You spend some of your Saturday mornings watching your students play sports...and you're OK with it!
*You get excited about colored sharpies and glitter glue!
*You add extra marbles to the marble jar when your students aren't looking just because you want to wear your PJ's to school on Friday too!
*You sometimes wish you could take students home with you or win the lottery to give them better lives
*You use 20+ acronyms a day....IEP, PEP, SST, SIT, PBIS, LLI, RTI, PLC, PTA, ACRE, AIMS, EOG, etc etc...eventually they're going to run out of letter combos to use!
*Every pair of pants you own has tickets in the pockets from your rewards system!
*You can handle a crying child, a kid vomiting, break-up an argument, and teach a killer math lesson, all in the same block! No sweat!
*You replaced "naughty" words with "Christopher Columbus" and "Fudge Ripple"
*Your day just isn't "right" until you've gotten at least one hug from a student!
*You've gotten REALLY good at biting your inside cheek when you get asked crazy questions, like "Do you think so and so does the (insert word for male genitalia) tug too much?" or a student asks if they can go to the nurse because their "butt" itches.
And the list goes on and on!

Haha, your first one made me laugh! My mom teaches and she still has a running list of names she would never use! And don't feel bad, I was ready to go to bed at 7:30 last night, too!

ReplyDeleteHahaha this is TOO funny!! We have a little girl named Emerson, too! She is a sweetie pie :) I would start to comment on my favorite bullets, but I love them all!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love this! My first year of teaching Sunday School, I had a little boy named Christian in my class. He ruined the name for me, and at the time, it was my favorite boy name!
ReplyDeleteMy dad, my mom, and my stepmom are all teachers and I actually wanted to be one myself until I got into the nanny business and realized I could not handle it every day for the rest of my life. Lol Kuddos to you! I can relate though, even just being a nanny. Esp the strange/crazy questions being asked and biting your cheek over it! Which I do way too often! ;) Love this post!

My favorite teacher in my entire life was my 3rd grade teacher. SHe was a new teacher like you and made learning so fun. I loved that year. Just always remember that even in the hardest of times, you are making a difference in a childs life. :)
